Every year before Lent, many cities participate in festivities that basically blow all of the others out of the water. Whether you call it Carnival or Mardi Gras, these celebrations are over the top and outrageous, but what WE love most about them is the style inspiration! Check out these amazing photos of Carnival around the world!
Carnival in Rio de Janeiro is wild, loud, and vibrant! Paraders dance to the classic Brazilian dance, the samba, all while wearing gorgeous costumes with gigantic feathered headpieces. The celebration lasts for days, and the revelers are invited to join in on the fun by jumping into the parade! We love the costumes because they are so intricate and exciting!
While the Carnival in Rio may be racy, the Carnival festivities in Venice might be the exact opposite! Most people walk around cloaked in ornate costumes with beautiful masks covering their faces. Many centuries ago masks were worn frequently in Venice, and scholars have suggested that it was a way to disguise your social ranking in everyday life. When the mask came on a pauper could be a prince. These masks are often made with leather, porcelain or glass, and then decorated with gold and jewels.
In New Orleans, Mardi Gras is the main event. A combination of Venice’s masks and Rio’s headdresses with a penchant for gold, green and purple; this celebration is known nationwide! People flock from all over the globe to experience this event with a uniquely Louisiana vibe.
Have you ever been to any Carnival-type celebrations? If not, which would you love to go to?

Looking for a new wallet that’s extra special? This bold blue box is perfect for carrying your loose change, credit cards and any other small knick-knacks you might need every day. Then when the sun sets, bring this little number with you out to dinner or dancing. Your sparkling wallet will be the talk of the town!
What You’ll Need:
Altoid’s mint container
Chrysolite Opal SS20
Pacific Opal SS20
Light Turquoise SS16
2 10mm Half Dome Buttons with Shank in Turquoise #58614
1. Paint your mint tin gold. Your tin will need a few coats to cover the information on the back. Let dry.
2. Use the ridge of the tin as a guide, and outline it with rhinestones. Create your own fun pattern, and glue it down. It is easier if you use a rhinestone tool to place the stones onto the lid since you’re dealing with such tiny pieces. Once all of your stones are in place, let the glue dry.
3. Take your two buttons, and carefully cut off the shanks.
4. Have the mint case standing up with the opening upward. Glue one button onto the smaller lip of the tin, and glue the other to the opposite side. When you close the tin they should connect creating a little purse. Let dry.
When you hit the town, hit it in style with this adorable accessory that’s sure to dazzle any passersby.
This winter has been intense to say the least. With the Winter Olympic Games in effect and the polar vortex ravaging the East, we’ve been seeing a LOT of snow this season. Needless to say we’ve become completely inspired by the iridescent crystalline colors of the winter, and had to include them in our latest Project DIY collection.
This collection is all about big bling. We love the look of heavy jewels saturated in vibrant colors. Cold as Ice features a lot of bedazzled pieces that are sure to catch and reflect light in a beautiful way.
This collection combines vintage rhinestones and shimmering metals that create an icy cool look.
Our favorite aspect of this collection is the customizability of the pieces. With so many components available, we guarantee that no piece has to look the same. Each unique element can be as stunning and unique as a snowflake.
What do YOU think this month’s collection will contain?

So this summer we went a little crazy for dye. We made a series of projects using Rit Dye. From the swirl scarf to the abstract tank, we loved all of them and can’t pick a favorite! Which is yours?

Ugly Holiday Sweater parties are all the rage now. If you aren’t familiar with this theme, the basic concept is simple: find the most heinous looking holiday sweater, and rock it til the reindeer fly home. While your sweater may look absolutely ridiculous, the rest of your outfit doesn’t have to! Here are a few simple ways to make your outfit stylish..or as stylish as possible given the circumstances.
Sweater, Diamond Cluster Rhinestone Button, Large Jewel Rhinestone Button, Flat Rhinestone Button
Remember our Vintage Button Necklace DIY? Replace those brass buttons with some of the rhinestone buttons above, and your neck may even garner more attention than that sweater! Plus you can wear it after the month of December, which is more than we can say for that ornament sweater.
Sweater, Bugle Beaded Applique, 1 1/4″ Woven Elastic, 18mm Metallic Foldover Elastic
Why stop sparkling with that sequin snowflake? Project DIY Designer, Michelle Levy, showed us how to make a No-Sew Holiday Headband, and we think that a sparkly beaded headband is the perfect complement to this sweater!
Sweater Dress, 1 1/2″ Ribbed Elastic, Buckle
This sweater dress looks comfy, cozy and totally bulky. Cinch it up by making a quick and easy belt!
Now granted we picked some cute, albeit loud sweaters, but we hope our suggestions gave you some ideas on how to upgrade your ugly sweater! Have you ever been to an ugly sweater party? Going to one this Christmas? If you revamp it using any of these tips, send us a photo! Actually, just send us a photo regardless. We would love to see how you rock this style.
This month we’re rolling out a Project DIY collection that is sure to turn a few heads. (Probably because it’s packed with sparkle!) Our Baroque n’ Roll collection is lavish, elegant and luxe; perfect for the holiday season. While we aren’t revealing what the projects are just yet, we wanted to give you a sneak peek of what materials you’ll be introduced to in this collection.
This is our first Project DIY collection to feature a big band of trim, and beautiful lace trim at that! If you’re wondering what you’ll be making, we aren’t spilling the beans yet, but you will need to use a needle and thread to create it.
It wouldn’t be a Baroque n’ Roll collection without a little bit of bling! From pearls to rhinestones, we picked materials that were incredibly glamorous and elegant. You’ll also be using rich gold pieces that invoke Baroque with their scrolling filigree details.
Since this collection is so elegant and feminine, we wanted to include one of the most elegant and feminine items we know, a cameo embellishment. It’s delicate, charming and a perfect addition to one of our projects.
Any guesses about what projects are in the latest Project DIY collection? Leave them down below!
