Our Favorite Looks from Paris Haute Couture Week 2014

6

Fashion month is one of our favorite times of the year, but Haute Couture Week holds a particularly special place in our hearts. Why? Well, the fashions are more elaborate, extravagant and outrageous! This year we were definitely not at a loss for favorite looks because the designers really brought their talent to another level.

Atelier Versace Couture Spring Summer 2014

Atelier Versace Couture Spring Summer 2014

Couture Week was kicked off by Atelier Versace! Inspired by Grace Jones, many of the dresses featured silky draped hoods, flowing fabrics, and intricate crystal embellishments.

Elie Saab Spring Summer 2014

The Elie Saab show had our hearts aflutter. Inspired by artist, Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, this collection was as light and floral as a painting. Pastels and small botanical embellishments reigned supreme, and each look bloomed with detail.

Giambattista Valli Haute Couture

The Giambattista Valli Haute Couture show pumped up the volume, literally. The looks were flouncy, sculpted, and reminiscent of big candy-colored bows.

VALENTINO COUTURE S/S 2014

The looks at the Valentino show were one part wild and one part literary. Featuring golds and neutrals, each look was elegant and unique.

Floral Runway Inspiration

Floral Prints have been a key feature on the runway. The nature infused trend has been revamped in a major way. Designers have been using various mediums such as fur, lace, beads, fabric  and appliques to incorporate these patterns. Below are some of our favorite floral runway pieces that give us the urge to create some of our very own pieces.

Highlights from Fall 2011 Couture

By Blerona

Like every season for Fashion Couture, Fall 2011 was out of this world.  Each and every piece from the designer collections seemed to be inspired from a different world or period in time and culture. Armani Prive channeled his collection from the roots of Japan, while Channel captured a look that belonged to another planet using feathers, beads, oversized pants, dark colors with hints of sparkle matching the beautiful stars at night. Christian Dior’s collection was colorful and theatrical under the new creative directer Bill Gaytten he managed to make the collection feel a chic night in Paris. Giambattista Valli’s collection was filled with bright colors, classic whites and beautiful animal prints channeling the late 60’s and lastly Valentino collection was filled with peices that had a magical feel with such impecable detail, it reminded me of Jane Austen’s era. This years Fall 2010 Couture Catwalk has beaten every other catwalk collection this season alone. Couture designers such as Valentino, Elie Saab, Chanel, Armani Prive and much more graced us with beautiful works of art with every model that walked on the runway, taking us into another fantasy land. The look for Chanel’s collection was themed towards a heavyweight daywear meets Byzantine-inspired sundower dresses. Some colours included dark palette of camine red, espresso, inky blue, faux nude, and aqua blue. Some details on the runway, notched v-necklines, asymmetric buttons, embroidery, floral appliqués and crystal beading. Main accessory were jeweled cuffs and buckled metallic belts.

Elie Saab’s beautiful collection was themed around ballgowns, and Oscar winners and all those that tread the tapis rouge (red carpet). Some key items in the collection included one-shouldered dresses, thigh-split skirts, and full-skirted gowns with layers of semi-sheer for light touch. Trims seen in the collection included heavy and elaborate beadwork, all-over sequins, paillettes, floral embroideries on sheers and goddess drapes.

Elie Saab

Jean Paul Gaultier’s look themed towards art deco vamp, complete with red lips, and smokey eyes. Silk, satin charmeuse, cashmere knits, Chantilly lace and velvet fabrics were used. Trims included pleated leather, feather fringes, black sequins, all-over paillette patterns and fur trims.

Jean Paul Gaultier

Christian Dior resembled a hothouse bouquet inspired by nature, still-life photography and flowers. Key items included fitted jackets, ruffled necklines, and dramatic red-carpet gowns. Vibrant brights such as daffodil yellow, cornflower blues, poppy red, fuchsia pink, cool aqua tones and sharp contrast of black and white were used in the collection.

Giorgio Armani Prive’s collection reminded us of the iconic 1970s Charlie Girls. Key items in the couture show pantsuits, cape-sleeved sheath dresses, and skirt suits with flared peplums. Details and trims included all-over sequines and pailletes, polished wood buttons, leather buckles at the neck, three-dimensional beaded domes, and brooch-like fastenings with gold-horns.

Some of us aren’t able to afford the beautifully chic clothing on the catwalk, but we can definitely use it as inspiration to create our own. Since DIY’s are the thing this year too, why not revamp your t-shirts with lace by adding simple lace accents to clothing or even accessories. Check out this blog for more revamping inspiration!

Paris Spring 2010

The runway shows from the Paris Spring 2010 collections were full of surprises and as expected, beautiful clothes.  Some of these included Alexander McQueen’s short dresses, with digitally printed reptile patterns and shoes that were simply amazing; while Valentino’s short party dresses in soft tones like pale yellow, rose, gold and nudes made from very sheer fabrics such as tulle, organza, chifon and lace. They were very different from the house’s tradition. Chanel’s show took place on a huge barn inside the Grand Palais, with a flirty country look.
