Our Favorite M&J Costumes

6

At M&J Trimming, Halloween is one of our favorite holidays! Our favorite aspect of this glorious day isn’t the treats, the spooks, or the tricks. It’s the, you guessed it, costumes! We love getting creative using the items we have in the store to make totally customized costumes! Here are a few of our favorites  from over the years!

Halloween | M&J Trimming

This cute gypsy costume is easy to recreate. You just need a skirt with some volume, a scarf to tie around your waist, and some gold coin trim!

Halloween | M&J Trimming

These costumes are positively terrifying. If you see these guys stalking you in the store, we promise that they’re just trying to help you pick out some trim!

Halloween | M&J Trimming

How creative are these troll costumes? The use of Troll Beads takes these costumes to the next level, and we love the color coordination and crazy hair!

Halloween | M&J Trimming

Looks like someone is “taking it easy” in a hippie ensemble. This look is super easy to recreate using our ribbons for the headband!

Halloween | M&J Trimming

This costume was inspired by the classic film and novel, Clockwork Orange. We may be biased, but we think this looks way more stylish than the original!

These pictures were taken during our Halloween event a few years ago. Guests got to trim, bedazzle and embellish to their heart’s content. Look at that amazing chained corset one guest made!

There was no absence of cats and dark costumes at this year’s Halloween. Meow!

Everybody smile and say trick or trims!

DIY Roundup: Update Your Curtains

11

Curtains are among the first details you notice when you enter a room. They are both functional and fashionable. In order to get that dramatic effect curtains should be embellished with fringe, pom-pom trim, or greek key Jacquard. Purchasing these curtains ready-made can get pretty expensive which is why we always take the DIY route at M&J. To make your own customized curtains you can purchase inexpensive curtains from a department store and embellish them with any decorative trim. The options are endless!

To give you some inspiration we’ve rounded up some of our favorite curtain makeovers. Let us know what you think!

M&J Trimming in New Dress A Day’s new book

1

We love when bloggers use our products to create special pieces for their wardrobes and homes. We really began to blush when we got a copy of New Dress A Day blogger, Marisa Lynch’s new book The Ultimate DIY Guide to Creating Fashion Dos from Thrift-Store Don’ts.  Marisa was kind enough to send it along with a little note letting us know how much she loves M&J Trimming but the real ‘melt our hearts’ moment happened when we saw her shoutout to M&J in the book!

We can read her shoutout over and over and never get bored with it (Thanks Marisa!).  In the book, she gives detailed tutorials on how to fix and update your wardrobe with various trims.

By Blerona

Every summer I have specific color that I try to mix in with my everyday outfits and this year it’s all about the NEONS! I specifically love wearing hints of neon in my outfit, little pops of color that are sure to catch the eye.  Today I took a walk around M&J Trimming trying to find some neon embellishments for a DIY and I was so surprised when I realized all of the neon colors popping out in between the trims. So many different trims and beautiful colors, I decided a NEON inspired DIY can wait because I just had to share these beautiful burst of COLOR trims inside of M&J Trimming with you!

Don’t you just love just love wearing headbands!  It’s jewelry in your hair, and the one-of-kind-headbands are my forte. Since I love DIY’s so much of course I’d try my hand in hair accessories. And these accessories are super easy, Instant Gratification! Check out this Oh So Chic DIY Hand bands

Materials:

Directions First Headband:

  • Step 1: Measure the elastic head band around your head. Make sure it’s tight enough to stay put. Then cut elastic trim to the correct size.
  • Step2: Take your appliqué and hot glue one end onto the back of the appliqué, then hot glue the other end. And you finished!

Second Head band:

  • Step 1: Measure the Metallic trim around your head and cut. Now cut off an extra 2inches of the cut trim and hot glue or sew one end of remaining elastic thread to that end.
  • Step 2: Measure the trim and sewn elastic thread around your head again, and be sure to make it tight to stretch out the elastic trim for a stronger hold.
  • Step 3: Once you measured it cut the extra elastic off and hot glue or sew to the other end of the metallic trim.
