Steven Cohen, Vice President at M&J Trimming, makes sure that customers have access to the most stylish and trendy trims in town! As the head of purchasing and sales, all potential new items have to go through him before they make their way onto the store shelves. Working at the familybusiness since the age of 14, he has four young daughters who can’t wait to follow in his footsteps. He can always tell which trims are trending, and gave us a few of his top trim picks! (And yes, they are ALL online.)
1” CHEETAH PRINT METALLIC RIBBON – This ribbon is, quite literally, wild. It’s a fun ribbon that combines two of today’s most popular trends: metallics and animal print. Use this ribbon to wrap birthday presents or add it as an accent to home décor.
2″ LARGE RHINESTONE LEAF TRIM – This is probably one of the most versatile rhinestone trims that we carry. DIY brides come in all of the time requesting this trim because they can make it into a bridal belt, and use small sections to create brooches for their bridesmaids.
LARGE FUR POMPOMS – Before you know it, we’re going to be having one of our famous New York autumns, and this pompom is the perfect addition to your cold-weather accessories. Add it to your hat or use it as a toggle on your cape! 23MM 3-ROW PEARL AND RHINESTONE TRIM – This trim is a trifecta of rhinestones, pearls, and chain. It looks incredible on gowns, clutches, and it can even be used to create a necklace.
1 5/8″ TOOTH PENDANT WITH CAP – It seems like everyone is trying out the hippie-chic look these days, and this pendant makes an awesome necklace for that style. It also comes in a lot of colors, so all of your festival friends can match! 1″ RUFFLE TRIM WITH PEARL CHAIN CENTER – This trim has a lot going on, but it all works together beautifully. The chain gives the ruffles and pearls just the right amount of edge, and keeps it from looking too delicate.
New York Fall/Winter Fashion Week may be over for 2014, but we’re still raving about this season’s collections! From classic rich jewel tones, to unexpected extraterrestrials; this week has been filled with gorgeous styles that we can’t wait to see off the runways and on the New York streets next winter. Here are a few of our favorite collections from this past week.
As much as we love embellishments, sometimes the best style is determined by structure. Zac Posen’s dramatic gowns came in a limited palette without much pattern play. The magic of the styles was evident in their architecture, from gorgeous pleats to structured bodices.
Nanette Lepore went to a favorite palette for fall: berry and black. The silhouettes were simple and chic, and the lack of flourish made the collection look fresh and clean.
In a dark and drab winterscape, Ruffian offers a welcome splash of color and shape! Many of the pieces were dripping in luxurious silk, the perfect fabric for a glamorous winter gown.
The looks at the Tadashi Shoji show were romantic and mysterious. With ornate and intricate details, gorgeous lace and velvet fabrics, and billowing light skirts; these styles are sure to be red carpet favorites!
Venexiana’s collection this season had looks that were dark, daring and a little bit dangerous. Working with a cool icy palette, each style embraces the frosty season.
We can’t wait until Spring/Summer, but swooning over these looks might hold us over until then. For the time being, we’ll just imagine wearing these gorgeous frocks, while making our way through slush and snow of winter.
New York City just got its first taste of winter with a slushy coat of snow, which means it’s time to whip out the winter wear! Here are a few of our favorite trends to wear this year so you can keep warm and stylish no matter what the forecast!
Who says you need to be a superhero to wear a cape? Capes are a timeless and elegant way to keep warm, and they’re right on trend for Fall/Winter 2013. We love the look of these rich and flowing capes, and we think they would be even more beautiful with ornate gold buttons!
Knee-d These Now
Over-the-knee boots are totally sleek. There’s definitely a right way and a wrong way to wear boots so high, but pairing them with classic cuts and lots of layers is always a good way to go.
Turtlenecks have totally made a comeback. Skip the statement scarf, and keep your neck toasty with one easy item!
This season’s “it” color is a surprising pick for this time of year. While we usually see rich jewel tones on the runways, this season we can’t help but notice the pastel pink trend sweeping the streets!
Whether it’s faux or the real deal, leather is a back in style! (As if it ever left.) The best part about this trend is that you can take the more conventional route of a loafer or boot, or try a more daring approach with a leather shirt! Check out our selection of leather trim to add a little edge to any outfit!

Patches were all the rage in the ’70’s and again in the ’90’s. Good news for those of you who have held on to your vintage gear…they’re making a comeback. For those of you simply looking to revamp your wardrobe, why not spruce them up with a patch party! Check out our large assortment of patches and appliques for inspiration. We can’t wait to see what you come up with.
In years past, Fashion Week was solely intended to showcase a designer’s collection. Now it has become a who’s who, and who’s wearing what in the fashion world. With the rise of social media outlets fashion week revolves around much more than the designers. Those attending shows now dress to impress ( fashion photographers that is) We at M&J can not handle how great some of the fashion selections have been. The D.I.Y options are endless; we’re already stocking up on fur, feathers, rhinestones and studs. Here is a recap of our favorite emerald green street style recaps from New York, Paris, and Milan Fashion Week.
