I was very thrilled when M&J recently began carrying feather patches.  We have been having a lot of fun with them creating all types of accessories that fit right in with this season’s hot trend.  So, you can only imagine my excitement when I discovered the new much larger version, a 20” x 15” feather mat (style #43361-Brown/Green Iris) available by calling 1-800-9-mjtrim.  I thought this would look great on a throw pillow, and since I am currently looking to change the look of my apartment this came in just the nick of time.  Throw pillows make a great accent in any room.  By mixing colors and textures you can liven up the place and create a new ambiance with out the expense of purchasing new furniture or the timely chore of painting.

This summer, feathers made a come back.  People everywhere are wearing them to accessorize headbands, hair clips, necklaces, earrings, bags, hats, shoes and the list goes on.  The great thing about feathers is that you could get any look you want depending on your personality. You can go from a hipster look to a glamorous look with the right piece.

Feather patches are great if you want to make your own feather accessory. You would be surprised how easy it is to make headbands or jewelry with them. Here are 3 examples of how you could make your own Curly Goose Pad and Cameo Headband, Crystal and Feather Earrings, and Peacock Feather and Tooth Pendant Necklace.

Dress Up For Halloween Using Body Glue

Halloween is just around the corner!  Add some elaborate looking elements to your costume this year without using elaborate amounts of energy!  A few rhinestones and feathers around your eyes are the perfect accent for Halloween this season.

All you need is body glue, a wooden applicator (or something around the same thickness as a chopstick), beeswax, feathers, and rhinestones in your desired size and color.  Our rhinestone starter kit comes with all the essential tools (rhinestones and feathers not included).  Your design will stay on all night long and comes off when you are ready to remove it with soap and warm water.

Body Glue

Directions:

  1. I suggest sketching out a draft of your design before you begin gluing.
  2. Apply a small amount of beeswax (about the size of a pea) to one end of your wooden applicator.  You will use this to pick up the rhinestones from the top by lightly touching the wax end to the top of the rhinestone.  Once placed on some glue it should detach itself from the wax.  Sometimes a little nudge with your finger is necessary.
  3. Dot the area around your eye where you want to apply rhinestones or feathers and begin to apply your rhinestones and feathers.  Make sure you are looking in a mirror or having a friend do this for best results!
  4. Let your design dry for about 5 minutes and you are ready to go!
