We love looking at street style photographs for DIY inspiration. M&J’s Garment District location allows us to see many creative individuals on a daily basis. Although many people working in and around the garment district may not be renowned designers they are often the inspiration for many runway designs. Fashion styling is always open for interpretation. We love looking at street style for inspiration.
Few films have had such a powerful impact on fashion in the way that the Great Gatsby has. The fashion sense of the roaring 20’s has influenced retailers and those counting down the days for the May 10th release. Brooks Brothers and Tiffany & Co created costumes for the films but we have been seeing an astonishing number of customers coming into M&J looking to recreate Daisy Buchanan’s Tiffany & Co headpiece. The ART DECO fashion of the ‘20s was nothing short of amazing and we’re certainly glad it’s back.

Here are some of our favorite prep school-inspired street style outfits.
In the June 2012 issue of Elle Belgie, model Maja Krag channels a ladylike matador, showing off some incredibly detailed outfits. This “Mrs. Mariachi” editorial is making us go crazy with DIY ideas – we can’t get enough of all of those embellished accents and sequined trims. But that golden bull-head necklace is by far our favorite. And we’re lucky enough to have a steer head buckle in our store so we can replicate it. DIY project, anyone?
