September 4th not only marks the beginning of NYFW, it also happens to be, diva-extraordinaire, Beyonce’s birthday! As a salute to Queen Bey we are taking a look at some of our favorite outfits from her concerts. She happens to love Swarovski and lace almost as much as we do!
Leather and lace met when Beyonce performed at the Superbowl with this fierce black body suit.
Beyonce kept it vibrant with a fun crochet and fringe minidress.
Keeping it classy across the pond, Beyonce opted for a sparkling, green gown for the 2014 BRITs.
Staying on the sequin train, she lit up the night with this incredible gold top!
Halloween is a big deal here at M&J because the holiday is all about getting to show your creative side! (The candy doesn’t hurt either.) Every year we like to dress to impress, and show our customers how versatile the products at M&J Trimming are. Check out our costumes from one of the most exciting holidays of the year!
Don’t just walk like an Egyptian, walk like a pharaoh!
The beauties from the M&J Bridal Salon look great as Minnie Mouse and a swashbuckling pirate!
This creative flock decided it’s better to be birds of a feather than to fly solo. Guess which one of them took home 6th place at the M&J Halloween Pageant!
Guys, we found Waldo. “He” was staring at the striped grosgrain ribbon wall for like…hours.
No Halloween is complete without a black cat. Crossing paths with this one won’t give you bad luck though, just really great fashion advice!
Forget Madison Square Garden. We had Psy performing on the M&J Trimming runway!
Just two dudes being dudes as Nancy from the Craft and the Brawny man.
The two finalists for the M&J Trimming Halloween pageant! Check out those accessories, and that makeup! It’s no wonder these two made it to the top.
And the winner of our M&J Trimming 2013 Halloween Pageant is Charlie as the totally terrifying zipperface!
Everyone from M&J Trimming seriously stepped up their costume game this year! We can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with next year!
At M&J Trimming, Halloween is one of our favorite holidays! Our favorite aspect of this glorious day isn’t the treats, the spooks, or the tricks. It’s the, you guessed it, costumes! We love getting creative using the items we have in the store to make totally customized costumes! Here are a few of our favorites from over the years!
This cute gypsy costume is easy to recreate. You just need a skirt with some volume, a scarf to tie around your waist, and some gold coin trim!
These costumes are positively terrifying. If you see these guys stalking you in the store, we promise that they’re just trying to help you pick out some trim!
How creative are these troll costumes? The use of Troll Beads takes these costumes to the next level, and we love the color coordination and crazy hair!
Looks like someone is “taking it easy” in a hippie ensemble. This look is super easy to recreate using our ribbons for the headband!
This costume was inspired by the classic film and novel, Clockwork Orange. We may be biased, but we think this looks way more stylish than the original!
These pictures were taken during our Halloween event a few years ago. Guests got to trim, bedazzle and embellish to their heart’s content. Look at that amazing chained corset one guest made!
There was no absence of cats and dark costumes at this year’s Halloween. Meow!
Everybody smile and say trick or trims!
Can’t wait to see what we’re going to be? Come into M&J Trimming on Halloween to see some of your favorite trimmers all dolled up in hilarious and creative costumes!
The wait is finally over. New York Comic Con is here! That’s right ladies and gentlemen. It’s time for pop culture costumes to make their way onto the streets of NYC! Out of every genre covered at the convention, we love the superhero look. Here are some of the most stylish crime-fighting costumes we’ve seen!
There have been many incarnations of the outfit worn by the “Caped Crusader”. Some cool, and some kind of embarrassing. (Not even George Clooney could pull off the costume in Batman and Robin.) The best had to be the one worn by Christian Bale in the Dark Knight. It was tough, durable, and looked like something a crime fighter would wear.
On the first X-Men film it took eight to nine hours to get Rebecca Romijn into her Mystique costume. Why? The whole look is created using prosthetics and makeup, not actual clothing. Fortunately by the second film they got it down to JUST five to six hours. The wait was well worth it because her makeup turned out AMAZING.
Not only does Peter Parker have Spidey Sense, he also has fashion sense in The Amazing Spiderman. The costume is true to the comic books, and looks totally sleek. If he swung through the streets, the most fashionable New Yorkers wouldn’t even bat an eyelash. If they were used to seeing superheroes swing through the streets, that is.
Many modern men wouldn’t feel comfortable in a pair of superhero tights. Luckily, Captain America got to wear an American staple instead. Blue jeans! The embroidered stars, full helmet and colorful shield keep the look bold and superhero-esque.
Our favorite comic book hero costume is actually donned by a villain! Despite the tough break the good guys got in Joel Schumacher’s Batman and Robin, Poison Ivy’s outfits were amazing! This fiery redhead was no stranger to embellishments, and the look is easy to replicate with some of our floral appliques.
Looking for some more superhero inspiration before you head to New York Comic Con this weekend? Take a look at our Marvel Comic Book inspiration page! We can’t promise you’ll be able to fly or fight crime with our trim, but we guarantee you’ll be the most stylish superhero at the convention!
At M&J, celebrity fashion is always a fun topic to discuss because the looks we see on the red carpet are not ones that we can readily replicate. (How often are you going to need a $3,000 ballgown?) We can live vicariously through celebrity fashion choices, noting their fashion hits and misses. However when Halloween rolls around, all bets are off. We can draw style inspiration from their zaniest costumes, and wear them out because since it’s Halloween it’s totally cool. Here are a few of our favorite Halloween looks from celebrities!
Elle Fanning as Mary Poppins is absolutely adorable! It looks like before she became the fashion maven she is today, she had a brief stint as a magical nanny! We love the tiny details she took care to add, like the little bird sitting on the umbrella and the vintage print bag.
If kids can dress like adults, then adults can dress like kids. Right? Check out Jessica Alba dressed as Dora the Explorer! It’s a look that is so easy to recreate, but also so clever! It’s the perfect costume for a young mom on a budget.
Lauren Conrad looks so pretty and feminine in this flapper getup! We love everything about this look from the fringe to the coral feather boa. If you want to recreate the costume yourself, check out our Great Gatsby inspiration page!
Heidi Klum is one of the most beautiful women in the world, and a force to be reckoned with when it comes to Halloween! Every year she holds a star-studded Halloween party, and every year she blows people away with her amazing costumes. Our favorite has to be this snake and apple costume. Seal was the Eve to this apple, naturally.
Leave it to designer Christian Serrano to don this creative Cruella de Vil outfit. It’s dramatic. It’s daring. But from the looks of his coat, the movie should have ended a little differently…
We hope these celebrity looks have gotten you inspired to go out and create your own costume! If you need any more inspiration, check out our Trick or Trims Halloween page!
