Great Gatsby Inspiration

2

Few films have had such a powerful impact on fashion in the way that the Great Gatsby has.  The fashion sense of the roaring 20’s has influenced retailers and those counting down the days for the May 10th release. Brooks Brothers and Tiffany & Co created costumes for the films but we have been seeing an astonishing number of customers coming into M&J looking to recreate Daisy Buchanan’s Tiffany & Co headpiece.  The ART DECO fashion of the ‘20s was nothing short of amazing and we’re certainly glad it’s back.

Rhinestones on the Runway

Many designers use rhinestones to enhance pieces within their collection. Some designers add a few stones here and there while others create works of art. Judith Leiber is one designer who has made a name for herself for her innovative use of crystals and rhinestones. Her initial bag created due to a shipping error which left many of her bags damaged. Rather than throwing the bags away, Judith began decorating them with a variety of small crystals. Ms. Leiber’s creative instincts may have inspired some of the runway looks we see today. Here are some of our favorite rhinestone-enhanced looks from the runway.

Alexander McQueen Inspired Bag DIY

2

Each year there is an it-bag. This coveted item is desired by everyone but owned by a select few.  This past year everyone had been crazed over the Alexander McQueen Skull bag.  Upon adding our Skull Nailheads to our e-commerce site, we realized how simple this DIY would be.  Check out our Alexander McQueen Inspired DIY tutorial below.

SUPPLIES:
12MM x 8MM IRON-ON SKULL NAILHEADS

4MM METAL CHAIN

REVOLVING LEATHER HOLE PUNCH

IRON

SCRAP PIECE OF FABRIC

WALLET

STEPS:
Place one of your 12MM x 8MM IRON-ON SKULL NAILHEADS face up on your wallet.

Gently put a piece of scrap fabric over that wallet, covering the nailhead.
Now iron your fabric for 15 seconds

DSC_0027Slowly remove the fabric, checking to see if your nailhead stayed in place.
NOTE: The Nailhead will be hot, so wait several seconds before you touch it.

You can create a design with your 12MM x 8MM IRON-ON SKULL NAILHEADS one at a time, or all at once.

Repeat the original step over again…Placing the skulls face up, covering it with fabric and ironing.
NOTE: If your skulls are not secure, iron for an additional 15 seconds.

Once you have created a pattern you are happy with on either side you may choose to add a strap.
Using your REVOLVING LEATHER HOLE PUNCH, poke a hole on either side of the wallet.

Paris & Milan Fashion Week 2012 Highlights

By Blerona

It looks like Lace is still appearing all over the runway and I’m can’t say that I’m mad about that! Besides beautiful metalic and sheer lace, the runway this year is bringing back the bling with shiny details of crystals, rhinestones, nailheads and beaded embellishments. As well as feathers, my favorite! Here are the highlights of Paris and Milan Fashion Week 2012.
