We don’t like to brag, but we’re kind of experts when it comes to ribbon, buttons and all sorts of trimming. (We should be, we’ve been in the business for over 70 years!) We try to provide our customers with the best, most unique trim and findings; but we ALSO want to help you learn what to look for and how to use it. We’ve created some great guides, videos and tutorials for some of our most-asked questions. Here are a few of our favorite resources!
If you’re looking for some information on buttons, check out our Button Basics blog post! If you’re ready to purchase but the measurements are confusing, take a look at our Button Size Chart. It will show you the conversions for popular-sized buttons.
If you don’t know the difference between E6000 and Gem-Tac, our Glue Guide might be just the ticket to get your DIYs to a good (and mess-free) start!
One of our most popular items is our collection of Swarovski crystals. Learn the AB & Cs of Crystals, check out our Rhinestone Size Chart, or find out what crystals are REALLY made of.
Do you know what you’re looking for, but have zero idea what it’s called? Take a look at our Product Glossary for terms and definitions of popular products.
If you’re obsessed with lace like we are, take a look at our Lesson in Lace!
We have a lot of great resources for DIYers new and advanced, and we’re always going to strive to bring you the latest news and resources. The question remains: what would YOU like to know more about?
Well ladies and gentlemen the holidays are over, but obviously that won’t stop M&J Trimming from bringing in beautiful trims, ribbons, and buttons! (Who says Christmas comes but once a year?) This month the website is full of new goodies that will be perfect for inspiring your DIYs. Here are a few of the new items we know you’ll go nuts over!
The month of January was all about elastics and webbing. We love this 1 1/2″ Botanical Pattern Webbing and the varied sturdy elastics we received. They’re simple, yet have small details like ribbing and weaving to really set them apart.
We put up some understated elastic trim with a dark muted color palette. These are perfect for menswear and menswear-inspired DIYs!
If you’re a fan of adorable things, these new novelty buttons are perfect for you. From funny bunnies to pretty kitties, we have everything you’d need to really amp up the cute.
Which items would YOU like to see on the web? Let us know below!
When it comes to organizing craft and fashion supplies, we’ve got it down to a science. Just go visit our store and see for yourself! You’ll find rows of rainbow ribbons, aisles of beaded trims, and walls of colorful buttons; and somehow everyone knows exactly where to find what you’re looking for. We would like to share some of our favorite tips with you, so that your space is relaxing and beautiful!
Sort by style first. This is a simple tip, but sort like with like. We keep our jute separate from our braided trim because it makes finding exactly the type of trim you’re looking for really easy.
Color code. Take a cue from our organization and sort by color. When it comes to craft supplies, it’s great to know what colors you have on hand quickly without having to look through your entire stash to find the right shade. Plus it can look really gorgeous!
Use boxes to separate different items or styles. It easier to have items in their own designated area instead of floating around in miscellaneous dishes or strewn on countertops. Label each box so you know what goes where without having to search through stacks.
We hope these simple tips will help you when you’re reorganizing your space! If you have any additional suggestions, share them down below!
This month we’ve stocked up on some amazing items that are ideal for making a very stylish DIY. This accessory is perfect for pairing with pants because it keeps them in place. It can be made out of many materials, but is most commonly made with leather, and usually has a fixture on the front to make it adjustable. We’re talking about belts! We’re sure that our beautiful new trims and buckles will guarantee that a handmade belt will be on everyone’s holiday wish list!
These tri-colored trims consist of three vinyl braids sewn together. We love the idea of a fun colored belt with a modern buckle.
These beautiful embossed trims are ideal for an understated belt with a little bit of edge, and this style comes in six colors, from tame neutrals to a vibrant green! Why not pair this trim with this buckle?
We got a LOT of fantastic buckles in this month, and we think they’re perfect for pairing with our braided trim! We particularly love the 2″ Crescent Buckle with Prong and the Bottle Opener Interlocking Buckle!
So we know what we would make with our latest treasures, but what would YOU make? Would you embellish a pair of boots or a bag? Add the braided trim to an accent pillow? We would love to hear your DIY ideas, or better yet, see them!

M&J Trimming is going across the pond, over the river, through the woods! Well, sort of. We’re going to be offering our international customers something to make their M&J Trimming shopping experience much easier.
Hundreds of people walk through our story every day, and many of them are visiting from all over the world! We are so fortunate to have customers from every corner of the earth because we get to hear their amazing stories, check out their fashion-forward styles, and ask what DIYs they’ll be working on with what they pick up at the store. Unfortunately, when they’re home their accessibility to M&J Trimming’s eclectic items is restricted.
Sure, international customers have been able to order our incredible trim, gorgeous rhinestones and beautiful buttons over the phone; but with time differences being what they are, that can prove to be a little inconvenient. That’s why we’ve introduced international shipping for online orders!
International customers can now experience the same convenience of buying a button whenever they see fit: on their commute in the Tube, while looking at inspiring masterpieces in the Louvre, or walking across the Great Wall of China. (How many bars can you get on the Great Wall anyway?)
While we love seeing your faces and hearing your stories when you visit, we’re happy to be able to bring a little bit of M&J Trimming to you in a convenient and simple way. We can’t wait to see what you create now that you have easy access to all of our trims!
Working at a store like M&J Trimming it’s hard not to become completely overcome with creativity! This place is really a DIYer’s dream. That’s why when Carlos saw this amazing green and red canvas ribbon, he knew exactly what to make with it: a Gucci-inspired belt! Learn how to make this stylish belt with just a few items, and in only a few minutes!
What You’ll Need:
2 2.5″ Bamboo Rings
35MM Polyester Webbing
A Striped Grosgrain ribbon or Jacquard ribbon for a vintage touch. You can order this style (55160) by giving us a call!
1. For this project we’re using printed ribbon, and lining it with webbing to make it sturdier. The webbing can also be used by itself for a fun solid belt. Line up the webbing and ribbon, and measure how much ribbon you will need by wrapping it around your hips and adding six inches.
2. Once you’ve cut the ribbon and webbing to your desired length, glue them together using a hot glue gun or E-6000. If you’re using a glue gun, work in sections. This way the glue won’t dry before you’ve reached the end of the ribbon!
3. Take the two bamboo rings, and loop the belt through them. Glue the end of the belt down past the rings. There should be a little bit of wiggle room between the two rings.
Extra step: If you want to make a belt loop for your belt, take a piece of that patterned ribbon and glue the two ends to the back of the belt, while making sure to create a loop on the other side. Make sure you can fit your belt through the loop before gluing it down!
What did you think of Carlos’s quick and easy belt tutorial? This belt is a great way to jazz up any outfit!
At M&J Trimming we’re constantly getting new trims, notions and findings to dazzle and delight! Every month we bring in the most beautiful and unique trims from all over the world because we know our customers want the best and finest. If you happen to live outside of the city and can’t see our fabulous selection of trims in person, we have good news. All of the new arrivals below are available online!
We absolutely adore lace at M&J Trimming. It’s a borderline obsession, really. This month we’ve received a lot of beautiful eyelet lace like the Ruffled Eyelet Lace, the Scallop Lace Edging, and the Scallop Eyelet Lace above! This lace is durable and perfect for trimming a dress or a shirt! Many of these beautiful eyelet trims are made in Spain, and they’re also 100% cotton!
Sometimes all you need is a little bit of thread. This button thread we’ve recently started stocking is perfect for those pesky loose buttons! It’s strong and sturdy, and will keep the buttons on your winter coat right where you left them!
Aside from ribbons and trims, we also love anything that sparkles! We have a huge selection of Swarovski crystals that are ideal for adding a little bit of bling to your outfit. We’re happy to introduce two captivating new colors: Dark Moss Green and Crystal Lilac Shadow. If you like to DIY with a little sparkle check out our Rhinestone Clutch, Rhinestone Beanie, and Rhinestone Clear Minauderie posts!

At M&J Trimming, Halloween is one of our favorite holidays! Our favorite aspect of this glorious day isn’t the treats, the spooks, or the tricks. It’s the, you guessed it, costumes! We love getting creative using the items we have in the store to make totally customized costumes! Here are a few of our favorites from over the years!
This cute gypsy costume is easy to recreate. You just need a skirt with some volume, a scarf to tie around your waist, and some gold coin trim!
These costumes are positively terrifying. If you see these guys stalking you in the store, we promise that they’re just trying to help you pick out some trim!
How creative are these troll costumes? The use of Troll Beads takes these costumes to the next level, and we love the color coordination and crazy hair!
Looks like someone is “taking it easy” in a hippie ensemble. This look is super easy to recreate using our ribbons for the headband!
This costume was inspired by the classic film and novel, Clockwork Orange. We may be biased, but we think this looks way more stylish than the original!
These pictures were taken during our Halloween event a few years ago. Guests got to trim, bedazzle and embellish to their heart’s content. Look at that amazing chained corset one guest made!
There was no absence of cats and dark costumes at this year’s Halloween. Meow!
Everybody smile and say trick or trims!
