I really needed a place in my kitchen to post invitations, schedules and more. I didn’t want to hang up any old cork board, so I made this one out of a cork board, fabric and some nail heads.

You will need:

1. A cork board of any size

2. A fun fabric to cover the cork board and the frame

3. Scissors

4. Spray on glue

5. A staple gun

6. Nail heads

Instructions:

1. Lay your fabric on top of the cork board, leave 2 inches extra around the edge of the board and frame and cut the fabric. If your fabric has a pattern, make sure you consider the placement of the pattern!

2. Spray your glue onto the corkboard. Lay your fabric on top of it and using a ruler or flat edge, rub the fabric outward to eliminate air bubbles and secure the fabric to the cork board.

3. Spray your frame with glue and wrap fabric around the frame, pressing to secure as you go.

4. Using your staple gun, secure the fabric to the back of the cork board. Cut away extra fabric.

5. Select your favorite nail heads and simply press them into the cork board! Space them as evenly as you can for a more professional look.

You can make your own gorgeous monogramed pillows with nothing but a pillow, the trim of your choice and a needle and thread! For a kids room, I would love to make the monogram out of a lot of buttons, sewed on to the pillow in the shape of a letter! or an edgier look, I would use a nailheads to add a little bit of rock n roll to a room… For the simplest and most refined look, I would use our chrome spun grosgrain ribbon and some iron on tape to create a chic monogram!

Here’s what I came up with for a children’s room

By Nicole

I love the crisp tailored look of these trimmed out skirted tables! I think it adds a fresh dimension to a traditional idea. Skirted tables are a great way to hide something ugly, give yourself more storage and create something beautiful!

So when I scavenged through my Mother in Laws basement and found the perfect size sofa table, I was so excited to make a chic table skirt for it!

My inspiration: This foyer by Tom Scheerer

This linen console from Beach Dwelling… I love the laces, so beachy and whimsical!

Blogger Eddie Ross took this old pedestal sink from grungy to gorgeous with his black and white skirt!

He inspired Jenny of Little Green Notebook to do the same! Hers is a no-sew DIY!

Here is a photo of the my skirted table! The fabric, an awesome KWID for Lee Jofa was on the pricy side, so I had my friend pillow maker Melanie of Plum Cushion whip this up for me!

We used a jacquard to give it that crisp tailored look that I loved in the photos above.

By Nicole Cohen

Is your home desperately in need of some high fashion glamour? Throw pillows are an easy way to punch up a room, and they can be changed at your whim. However, decorative throw pillows can be very expensive, especially if you buy more than one of them.

Now you can add that little extra something to your home at a minimal cost.

I began to notice many high end designer home stores carrying pillows adorned with many of the things sold at M&J Trimming. I improvised on the designs I saw in high end department stores and created this fun pillow for my home. This design works on any shape pillow and any color.

I made a 18 sq” silk pillow, using about 5 yards of brown 3/8” grosgrain ribbon.

The easiest pillow to sew is a simple square pillow.

Steps:

To make your pillow, cut two squares of fabric that are one half inch bigger than your finished pillow measurement on each side.

Take your grosgrain ribbon and lay it diagonally across the brighter side of one of the squares of fabric. If you like this arrangement cut the ribbon and sew it on diagonally. Sew to the edge of the fabric, so that when you close the pillow, the ribbons will disappear into the seam.

This is where the fun begins, begin to sew the strips of ribbon in as many random directions as you can. Alternate horizontal, vertical and different diagonal strips to achieve a random look.

When you are satisfied that the face of your pillow is striped to perfection, place the two squares so that they are on top of each other and so that the brighter side of one square faces the side with the ribbons.

Sew around three sides of the fabric squares, using a half inch seam allowance. (A seam allowance is the measurement from the edge of the fabric to where you want the sewing machine to stitch the fabric.) On the fourth side of the squares, sew a third of the way in from each side. This leaves you with an open space in the middle of that side. Use that space to turn your pillow right side out.

At last, you are ready to finish your pillow. Stuff it firmly and then hand stitch the opening closed. Now, you can repeat the process to make a matching pillow.

You can also achieve the same look with less work by taking an existing pillow and using SoBo fabric glue to glue the strips of ribbon onto your pillow case. If you do choose to glue the ribbons on, be aware that the edges will not be as clean as the sewed in version.

Enjoy!
